The PMAC 2026 theme, “Navigating Global Demographic Transitions Through Innovative Policy: An Equity-Centered Approach” directly intersects with the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030), which is the global collaboration to improve the lives of older people, their families, and communities, promoting sustainable development inclusive of older people.

January 2026 marks the midpoint of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021-2030. This session provides a timely opportunity to reflect on progress, identify strategic priorities for the second half of the Decade and ensure alignment with the response to broader global demographic and policy challenges. This session at PMAC 2026 will kick off a stakeholder consultation & engage key actors and implementors —countries, multilateral organizations, civil society, academia and the private sector, to discuss progress and areas to focus on in the next 5 years.  The consultation including surveys of older persons and Member States, will feed into 2026 UN General Assembly Progress Report on the Decade of Healthy Ageing.

  • Share an update on progress achieved in the first half of the Decade of Healthy Ageing.
  • Present potential themes and structure of the forthcoming UNGA Progress Report (2026).
  • Engage countries and partners present at PMAC 2026 to reflect on lessons learned and identify strategic directions for 2026–2030.
  • Launch a web-based consultation to gather wider input for the UNGA report, and guide activities for the next 5 years to meet the goals of the UN Decade, ensuring inclusivity and transparency.
  • Identification of new partners and champions for the second half of the Decade.
