Non-communicable diseases (“NCDs”) account for 75% of mortality in the Pacific and 55% in Southeast Asia. Despite differing population trends, the prevalence of NCDs such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity remains a significant concern across the region, serving as major causes of death and disability. Health systems in the region are struggling to adapt to diverse demographic changes, including a growing youth population and an aging population, while high rates of NCDs are linked to common risk factors such as unhealthy diets and lifestyles, tobacco use, and excessive alcohol consumption. This side meeting aims to foster discussion on innovative solutions to addressing NCD prevalence in Asian contexts.
