Global health systems face increasing pressure from demographic shifts, aging populations, and widening
inequalities. Japan’s journey from achieving UHC in the 1960s to managing a super-aged society offers
valuable lessons. Meanwhile, Asia and Africa are exploring prevention-focused, people-centered
approaches, leveraging digital tools and community collaboration. As we move beyond 2030, developing
UHC indicators tailored to national contexts is essential for inclusive governance. These diverse
experiences highlight the need to rethink health systems and governance in a fragmented world.

This side meeting aims to explore innovative approaches to sustainable and inclusive UHC by examining
health system transitions, prevention strategies, and the evolving social value of aging. Through case
studies from Japan, Asia, and Africa, and discussions on digital transformation and indicator development,
the session will promote cross-sectoral dialogue and policy innovation. The goal is to generate actionable
insights for global health governance that ensures no one is left behind.
