Global health systems face increasing pressure from demographic shifts, aging populations, and widening inequalities. Japan’s journey from achieving UHC in the 1960s to managing a super-aged society offers valuable lessons how to incorporate the social value perspective into policy in order to build a healthy society characterized by equity, inclusiveness, trust, and sustainability, going beyond simply expanding access to healthcare. Health is both an individual right and a form of social capital. Reflecting social value in policy strengthens health as a public good (public asset). Furthermore, the WHO-proposed Integrated People-Centered Health Services (IPCHS) framework is crucial for practically advancing social value through people-centered service design. This side event will explore the interrelationships between UHC, social value, and IPCHS, discussing concrete measures to realize “value-co-creation-based global health” through international knowledge sharing. This will provide new perspectives for building sustainable and equitable health systems.

This event aims to explore how to incorporate the Social Value in advancing UHC policy and measures in each country, through the case studies and the multi-sectoral discussion of way forward.
