Dr. Reiko Hayashi is the Director-General of Japan’s National Institute of Population and Social Security Research (IPSS). Before joining IPSS in 2012, she served in Senegal as technical advisor to the Minister of Health as JICA expert (2008–2011), and was engaged in projects of international cooperation concerning population, health and development in various countries. After she joined IPSS, her research covers global ageing, health and longevity, migration, population development and policies. She holds a PhD in policy studies from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) Japan, Master of Health Sciences and Bachelor of Technology (Architecture) from The University of Tokyo and DESS of Université de Paris I. She is a member of ICD and ICF Commissions of Social Security Council of Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the expert member of the Japanese government’s Roadmap for the Realization of a Society of Harmonious Coexistence with Foreign Nationals, and the member of the Council for Healthcare and Global Health of Headquarters for Healthcare Policy, Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office.
